Using Honey Pots To Improve Your Systems Security

You can feel confident against hacker-attacks if you have right security in place. So, what all do you to need to feel confident? What is the right kind of security? What security technologies are available? How you can defend against hacker attacks? How hackers work? Do you really know all?
Wanna know, then read on
In order to attack someones network, you will need to know as much as you can about that network, so gathering as much information as possible is pretty much where they all start. The information can be technical or non-technical, for example, the partners of the target can be useful for them to know, the location of all office branches etc. This information can help hackers understand the possible technologies in place to stop them.
Technical information may contain IP addresses in use, services available, etc. More services running on servers means more entry points. More entry points make it easier to get access.
The more services that are running on servers, the better chance a hacker has. E.g. if server-A only had port 110 open , but server-B had ports, 443, 143, 110, 80, 25 and 21 open, then server-B would be the obvious choice because there are more points of entry. If you can get past the security on one open port, then you get full access to the server, so the server with the most options for entry would be the one to go for.
Now what if I deployed SERVER-B just to grab your attention, distracting you from some meaningful server SERVER-A. I may install a (fake) server SERVER-B for hackers to attack so as to safe guard my production servers, as soon as they start I can now study attack patterns. Is it not a brilliant idea? That’s called the honey pot.
Basically, what a honey pot is is effectively a trap designed to detect, distract and generally counter attempts to hack into your servers. Usually its in the form of data or a network that appears to be part of your main system and to contain valuable data, but in fact its isolated and monitored.
A honeypot is valuable as a surveillance and early-warning tool. It can carry risks to a network, and must be handled with care. If they are not properly walled off, an attacker can use them to break into a system. Honeypots can be classified based on their deployment and based on their level of involvement. Based on the deployment, can be classified as
1. Production Honeypots 2. Research Honeypots
Production Honey Pots: Easy to use, capture limited information, used mainly by corporations and companies.
Research Honey Pots Usually run by voluntary workers or institutions of IT education in order to collect more and more information about the tactics of modern hackers to develop better defence systems.

What They Don’t Tell You About Stun Guns
by Admin on Jul.07, 2009, under Welcome
Is it true that the stopping power of stun gun has everything to do with the voltage? In most cases Yes! I will explain.
When looking to purchase a stun gun. Why doesn’t everyone just go out and buy the most powerful? Most people don’t really know why they should pick the most powerful one they can afford. We will go over why.
A Stun guns voltage has increased dramatically in recent years and for good reason. For one technology and two, it is needed. Yes that’s correct it is needed. Simply because it will make a difference in the event of a self defense situation.
I am not suggesting that you should go throw out your 200,000 volt stun gun but, you should be aware of some differences. If you are ever assaulted then you will need to use your stun gun on this assailant for 4-5 seconds. Yes ! It is true. You need to make sure that you can get away! 4-5 seconds can seem like forever and unfortunately can mean life or death. This situation holds true for stun guns that are in the power range of 100,000 – 500,000 volts.
Stun guns manufactured in the range of 750K – 1.2 Million volts will cut that time needed in half. Just about 2 seconds is needed to subdue even the biggest of attackers. It is basically like getting hit with a baseball bat and god forbid if you ever have to experience that first hand. Using 2 seconds time is still along time in an attack you also need to consider if your going to apply this guns through clothing.
Now for the big boy stun guns. 1.5 millions – 2.6 million volts is going to stop your assailant. Rest assured that there is no need for another stun gun and even no need for a more powerful one. They can stop making them right here. Applying this to an assailant will put him or her down in a second or less. And that’s what you need to get away. It also reduces your chances of getting injured or worse by up to 75%-85%. You do not need to consider much with a stun gun powered at 2.5 million or more volts in a time of an attack. Having a 2.5 million volts or more stun gun available for your protection is an absolute necessity in my opinion and I’m sure my peers in the industry will agree.
These facts are things you should take into consideration when you purchase a stun gun. Of course your budget is something to consider however, life is priceless.
